NYC August 2013

 

          Commonly referred to as Marcus Garvey’s month in NYC august is truly an exciting time.  Throughout the month events and programs are being organized and actualized.  These events illustrate the power of the Afrikan to be self sufficient and quite forceful in determining our reality.  As an interesting contrast to the poverty, ignorance and confusion our people are afflicted with, these events provide a ray of hope.  More than that, it provides another stone in which the future Pan Afrikan nation will be built. 

          Garvey was truly a man before his time.  His ideas were so radical they were sensible; so extreme they were reasonable.  His militaristic stance made the ruling class (I.e. white supremacists) and Afrikans in rehabilitation nervous yet hopeful.  The U.N.I.A was and is exactly what we need.  More specifically the ideology and infrastructure offered was and is the remedy for the Black nation.

          Imagine if we all embodied the same nationalistic, organizational spirit and will to take control of our individual and collective destiny, Brain power is not lacking. A concerted effort to analyze and reach a consensus about what our collective reality is the problem.   For centuries the world has had European minds at the forefront of development.  The results have been less than encouraging.  Rampant corruption, poverty, sickness and cataclysmic climate change are just a few of the issues we face now.  We must self affirm and self determine how we wish to run our existence or we will continue to be exploited by the savage ones. 

          So learn from Garvey family.  Instead of seeking to buy into the celebrity leader model, where the chance for success is a crap shoot at best, be practical.   By focusing on providing the goods and services needed to cope, compete and otherwise live in this world now and moving forward, you can be a star in your own right.  Money is there to be made.  In fact many trades such as carpentry, plumbing, computer engineering, and graphic design offer highly lucrative careers. “Based on its present configuration, the full configuration of an Afrikan American economic system requires that it undergoes a number of phases. The first phase is the establishment of a broad base retail and service outlets…” –Amos Wilson Truer words have never been said. 

          The more businesses we open amongst our selves combined with a fundamental change of our attitudes regarding our worth as human beings, the better off we will be.   We Afrikans have enormous gifts and a storied history; we need only develop and channel our power. 

          Garvey learned the power of media earlier. He then tried his hand at business achieving varied results.  Unfortunate infiltration by he savage ones derailed his projects, but not his ideas! So, study those ideas and engineer them.  Creation and control is the key to our future existence.

The day we stop playing games

              Mind games. Men play them. Woman mastered them. Its all over the social structure of many countries. I hear itis everywhere:

"Gurllll this nucca here think I'm stupid,. Now all of a sudden you have a password on your phone?


"So...who is this new friend of yours?"
"Oh he is just a co-worker."
 "Right and why is he calling at 11pm?"
"....."
"Yup, that what I thought, ole trifling woman.."   So on and so forth.  See things like that are generally acceptable at a high school level, a little less at the collage level.  When you are in your mid to late 20's..err not so much. 

Indeed.  Mental foolery.  Now I am all for seeing things from the other perspective.  After all a slanted view of the world makes for limited perspective and a dull mind, but when you do so with the intention of deceiving  in order to take advantage of the opposite sex, that when I take issue.  So fellas and ladies, stop folling your self and stop the games.  Really ask yourself what is it that you want, and what is it that your potential partner wants,  Be truthful with one another and build.  Other wise we get this:

Yeah...not cool.  Moral of the story, quit the games and insecurity.  Communicate a little better and maybe healing  and building can really start.

When the search begins..AKA to cuff or not to cuff?

 So...summer is almost over and that means the weather will turn cold and frigid, much like that summer love's emotions after she caught you trying to holla at that other lady( or fella).  Such is life in the city or suburbs for that matter.  Honestly summer flings turning into "Damn she was fly. Let me give her a call...What!? Wrong number, ain't this bout a b***h" is going to happen. 
   Which is why I suggest a few rules, well more like guidelines to dating during the cold season.  My brothers please just shut it and listen. Thank you in advance. 

Rule #1

    Do an Autumn cleaning of your phone book. 

   All non essential( read- booty that you will never see again, except that awkward moment on your  local train line). 
There is nothing worse than trying and failing to rekindle a dead relationship. Sorry, contrary to popular belief embers of flings that have long since past are not so simple to become roaring fires of passion. Unless it was just that amazing. Just let it go..please. Last I checked there are plenty of good, hardworking single people in the world.  And yes more than a couple are looking forward to finding someone to have a nightcap with the option to advance to cuffed status. Heed well Autumn is the season of cutting of the dead weight to make room for the new.

Rule#2

  Clearly define your intention

  Look, I get it. The pimp/player life is idolized all over. T.V, rap videos, err worldstarhiphop.com(sigh..ratchetnesss) to name a few sources. But in the real world this only leads to increase chances of becoming a real life stat.(3 baby mommas and counting..and why is it burning when I pee??) So yes, clarity is key , now and forever. Trust me, when honesty is involved entire new doors are opened; some of which are well..interesting to say the least. If you refuse to be honest with a potential partner at least be honest with yourself. Ladies, sometimes head at the movies is just that. Just calling like I see it. When you are in the cuffing mode, why waste time with the flavor of the week, when the house special is always on the menu? Remember non essential action leads to moments best left to the likes of teenagers just discovering the joys of lovemaking.

Lastly Rule#3

  Learn to be selective!!

  Can this potential partner satisfy most if not all the requirements necessary to make it to the spring? Or is this just a 6pm, I'm really tired of eating alone kind of thing? Not everything walking on the street is worthy of finding its way into your bedroom.  The bedchamber is sacred man.  Unless sleeping with everything that moves is your cup of tea, be a little sometimes. Real talk.

Peace and blessings.  Just taking some time out to express my appreciation for all that you have given in terms of inspiring generations of Kings, and Queens, even though it seems a bit bleak at the moment.  I know sometimes it may look like we(men) do not appreciate you or respect what you mean to the world, but we do.  Well the ones who know and act  anyways,  I can't speak for the rest.  The only thing is, please take control of the image you  portray.  Falling victim to the brainwashing techniques of this current regime only undermines your allure and power to shape reality.  Your sexy, blessed with immaculte features, I get it. We all get it.  So why put it out so blatant?  Think about it: Is dressing and acting in an overly sexual light really your decision or is it a reaction to being boxed into a physiologically sexually repressive culture that uses sex a a marketing tool?.  Just saying.

Peace...well 2012 is defiantly heating up.  I n the last few weeks, an explosion of violence is sweeping across the nation, mostly centered where else...in the Black communities( Detroit, the Bronx...).  So to offset that a bit, had to dig up some positive wisdom from the archives... Enjoy.
